Mineralogy & Petrology Page
Useful Links
The WebMineral Database An incredible resource for mineralogical data. You can search for information many different ways including by name, by element, and by physical properties.
Amethyst Galleries' Mineral Gallery This is the home page for an "internet rock shop" but it contains useful lists of minerals and data about them. You can search by name, by occurrence, by properties, etc.
Index of Minerals in Thin Section A nice reference for optical mineralogy - includes photomicrographs of the common rock forming minerals with brief comments on their most diagnostic optical traits.
Periodic Table The ChemSoc periodic table contains everything you would want to know about properties of the elements.
EarthChem Igneous Rock Data Bases This site is a portal to three big databases of igneous rock analyses - GEOROC (analyses from convergent margins and hotspots), NAVDAT (analyses from western North America) and PETDB (analyses from mid-ocean ridges).
Geochemistry of Igneous Rocks This site is described as an eText on igneous geochemistry. It is organized by tectonic setting (e.g., oceanic islands) and then by location (e.g., Hawaii). Lots of good info here but you need a 300-level petrology background to understand the material.
MELTS Mark Ghiorso's interactive software for thermodynamic modeling of igneous processes.
