 Print Class Format

1st week of a new lesson (three classes, and one individual/group presentation meeting may be required)

preview for new lesson (the weekend beofre the lesson is introduced) – 2- 3 hours

Preview Assignment: learn Core Vocabulary; preview Language Notes and Grammar; complete Textbook Activities II. 漢字練習the first exercise (use the following characters to make words, phrases, and then sentences – please handwrite your answers); some students may choose to use the character sheets in the Workbook to practice handwriting characters.

monday(1st class) – class time + 3 hours of after-class work

In-Class: review Core Vocabulary and Sentence Patterns; review 漢字練習 Activities II & student sentences; listen/read Language in Use.
Assignment:
finish Textbook Activities II all exercises for character/word practice; complete Workbook II. Character Exercises; and prepare for 1st lesson test based on core vocabulary and the completed exercises. This first test evaluates student’s ability in producing key words and understanding of its usages. At least 6 hours of preparation is expected for students to successfully complete this task. Test format includes fill-in-the-blanks, dictation, composing phrases and sentences as well as reading comprehension.

wednesday  (2nd class) – class time + 3 hours of after-class work

In-Class: test (15-20 min.); practice with Language in Use; work on 聽力練習 Listening Activities and 語法練習Grammar Activities.
Assignment:
listen to audio recording of Language in Use; finish Textbook Activities III Grammar exercises and complete Workbook Grammar exercises.

friday (3rd class) ) – class time + 3 hours of after-class work

In-Class: review assignments on Listening and Grammar exercises; more practice with Language in Use; brainstorm with presentation topic (see Textbook Culture Link).
Assignment:
start working on the writing assignment in Workbook Comprehensive Exercises (due on next test day - 5th class); prepare for presentation (either an individual project or a group project due the 6th class ); complete Yackpack or Moodle exercise if assigned.

 

 

2nd week of the lesson  (three classes , and one individual/group presentation meeting may be required)

monday (4th Class) – class time + 3 hours of after-class work

In-Class: review all assignments and prepare for the lesson test; key answers will be distributed or posted.

Assignment: finish the writing assignment in Workbook Comprehensive Exercises (due the 5th class and will be graded as part of the lesson test-15-20%); prepare for 2nd comprehensive lesson test. Test format includes listening comprehension (Q & A), grammar (fill-in-the-blanks & sentence making), reading comprehension and vocabulary usage (fill-in-the-blanks/Q & A). Students need to complete all assignments and are expected to spend at least 3 hours to review for this test.

wednesday (5th class) – class time + 2 hours of after-class work

In-Class: test (40-50 minutes); review of presentation assignment.
Assignment: prepare for presentation (due the 6th class).

friday (6th class) – class time + 2-3 hours of preview work

In-Class: test (40-50 minutes); review of presentation.
Preview Assignment: preview the next new lesson; learn Core Vocabulary; preview Language Notes and Grammar; complete Textbook Activities II. 漢字練習the first exercise (use the following characters to make words, phrases, and then sentences – please handwrite your answers); some students may choose to use the character sheets in the Workbook to practice handwriting characters.
