Online Study & Speaking Practice – This weekly session is REQUIRED and will start Week 3 led by Assistant Teacher, Acacia or Ou Laoshi. Tentatively, we are offering three sessions. Please save at least one hour during these times and sign up ASAP.

For this week, you are working on your own, by setting aside about 40 minutes to complete this self-paced study:
1. Suggested self-study time 10 min. Access Pinyin Chart check out selected sounds to get a general idea of how Mandarin sounds like
2. 20 min. Read through the explanations about and listen to 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and neural Tones; listen a couple of times and see if you can distinguish them; save the tone rules until later
3. 10 min.
Watch video clips and repeat Pinyin - Shu and Xu | Pinyin - Chi and Qi | Pinyin - Zhi and Ji

§   Make sure you can access all online resource pages and tools. If not, try another browser and/or update your browser.

§   Set up Voicethread and know how to listen to sample recordings and record your own.

 

Tips on Studying Chinese:

§   Read and follow course schedule closely and keep track of homework deadlines and quiz schedule.

§   Use class time as STUDY time! Eliminate possible distraction during class time to allow your full and attentive participation.

§   Work on course material DAILY for about 30 minutes.

§   Make sure all the required online tools and mobile apps work for you. Ask for help ASAP if you need tech support.
