Potentilla flabellifolia

FAN-LEAVED CINQUEFOIL

Rosaceae

Fan-leaved cinquefoil is a perennial herb that grows to 30 cm tall from a dense cluster of basal leaves. The basal and stem leaves have 3 leaflets, each leaflet egg-shaped to fan-shaped and deeply toothed. The petals are yellow, 1 cm long, and somewhat heart-shaped. Several flowers are clustered on the tips of leafy stems. The shallow hypanthium has 5 lobes alternating with 5 toothed bracteoles. Fan-leaved cinquefoil is common in moist meadows and slopes at middle to alpine elevations.
