Rhododendron albiflorum White-flowered rhododendron is an erect, slender, branched shrub, 1-2.5 m tall, with reddish hairs on the twigs. The leaves are deciduous, alternate, oval to shortly lance-shaped, 4-9 cm long, and yellowish-green with fine rusty hairs on the upper surface. The flowers are creamy white, large (1-2 cm across), and cup-shaped rather than bell shaped, with the petals fused only at the base, and borne in clusters of 2-4 on the previous year's growth. The terminal pores of the anthers are usually visible. White-flowered rhododendron is common in moist coniferous forest openings and along streambeds, sometimes on rather dry soils, at subalpine elevations. |
