Cassiope mertensiana

WHITE MOUNTAIN-HEATHER

Ericaceae

White mountain-heather is a low (to 30 cm), tufted, evergreen shrub whose 4-angled stems are completely hidden by the closely overlapping leaves. The leaves are opposite, scale-like, and pressed against the stem in four rows. The flowers are small, white, pendent bells with slightly flaring lobes. White mountain-heather is common in open areas and at forest edges at subalpine and alpine elevations.
