Crassulaceae

Stonecrop Family

The Crassulaceae is a family characterized by annual and perennial herbs with thick succulent leaves. The flowers have 4 or 5 distinct sepals, the same number of distinct petals, twice as many stamens, and 3-5 distinct or almost distinct carpels. We have two genera of Crassulaceae in western Washington: Sedum and Tillaea. Many species of Sedum are grown ornamentally for their leaves as much as for their flowers.
