CHIN 250: CULTURE AND COMMUNICATION

This course aims to develop increased accuracy in communication skills utilizing Mandarin Chinese in a cultural context.
Emphasis is on oral fluency, comprehension, and the language used in daily life for a college student.

Final Project Prompt:
Introduce Puget Sound to perspective students, showing them the campus facility, sharing your own experience, and convince them to also pick the university.

Part 1: Prepare a video script (monologue) as a general intro of Puget Sound and reasons why you think this is a great school. You will have your script prepared by Monday next week, and will practice for a scheduled filming session during Week 12-13, before Thanksgiving break

Part 2: Choose at least two different parts of campus life to introduce: physical location, groups, people, departments, or events. Prepare short narratives or dialogues (working with another classmate) to showcase your experiences on campus. You will work finish your scripts for this part by 11/15, and start practicing and filming on your own.

Final video clips, should be posted on YouTube/IG (if you have an account), and/or share with Sun Laoshi via Google Drive.

Due Week 10 (11/1-11/5):
HW14 Final Project Part 1: Video script: general introduction

 

Due Week 11 (11/8-11/12):
HW15 Final Project Part 2: Video script: storyboard and script to introduce two places/people/events

 

Weeks 12-13 (11/15-11/23):
Submit finalized scripts for approval and posting, set up practice sessions with Chen Laoshi

Weeks 14 (11/29-12/3):

Scheduled filming of Part 1 general intro (30 minutes) with Chen Laoshi (during class time in Wy 209 or another time in
Chen Laoshi’s office is Warner Gym)

Weeks 15 (12/6-12/8):

View and share each other’s final project
