front entrance of Wyatt Hall) to meet other students and faculty in the program, and grab a pineapple cake.


45 min. Work on Skritter Radicals (1-20): recognize each one and know its corresponding English meaning. Do not worry about the Pinyin for these radicals.

Speaking sessions start next week

Attend Tacoma Moon Festival in lieu of Monday (9/11) class:

Class on next Monday (9/11) is cancelled. In lieu of it, please attend the Tacoma Moon Festival on Saturday (Sept. 9) to complete ONE of the following tasks:
1. Join the Puget Sound volunteer group. Volunteer events will occur on Thursday, Friday and during the festival on Saturday this week.
2. Attend the Festival on Saturday as a festival goer.


You are provided with an immersion opportunity to participate in a community-based outdoor cultural event to learn more about different heritage traditions. Volunteers at the festival will have the opportunity to enjoy the festival as well. You can watch a mainstage performance, go to the Ting for tea tasting, take (or give) a history tour, try a mooncake, interact with other festival goers that might share different heritage backgrounds, etc…)! Get a ride from a classmate; ask a friend to go with you. Learn more about the Tacoma Moon Festival.


If for some reasons, you cannot attend any of the above events, please complete a
Mnemonic Jamboard frame to share your thoughts and ways for you to connect/memorize characters by next Wednesday’s class.

Tips on Studying Chinese:

§   Read and follow course schedule closely and keep track of homework deadlines and quiz schedule.

§   Use class time as STUDY time! Eliminate possible distraction during class time to allow your full and attentive participation.

§   Work on course material DAILY for about 30 minutes.

§   Make sure all the required online tools and mobile apps work for you. Ask for help ASAP if you need tech support.
