Actaea rubra

Baneberry

Ranunculus

Baneberry is a rather tall (40-100 cm), sparsely branched, rhizomatous perennial. The leaves are 2-3 times divided in 3's with segments toothed and lobed. The many small white flowers are arranged in a loose rounded cluster, and mature into glossy red berries. All parts of the plant are extremely poisonous, which is where the plant gets its common name. Baneberry is common in moist, shady forests and along streambanks at low to middle elevations.
