(Return to Family List)
The poppy family members are perennial or annual herbs, often with bluish-green, glaucous foliage and bitter sap. The flowers are regular (poppies proper) or irregular (former Fumariaceae), and the fruits are capsules. The 2-3 sepals generally fall as the flower opens. The petals are generally delicate and/or crinkled and showy. The leaves are usually compound, often highly dissected.
