Chocolate lily is an herbaceous perennial growing to 80 cm tall. The leaves are in whorls of 3-5, lance-shaped, 5-15 cm long. The flowers are dark purple mottled with greenish yellow, pendent, bell-shaped, single or in clusters of 2-5. Chocolate lily grows in open meadows and woods from low to subalpine elevations.
