Avalanche lily is a small (15-40 cm tall) herbaceous perennial. Its leaves are paired and basal, broadly lance-shaped and unmottled. The 2-3 flowers per stem are nodding and white with yellow centers. Avalanche lily grows abundantly in the subalpine meadows of Mt. Rainier south to Mt. Hood, but is seldom found outside of this range.
